Why Advanced Prepping is Crucial to the FAST Cooking System

Updated: Dec 28, 2024

With advanced prepping, it is possible to cook a meal from scratch in as little as 20 minutes using all fresh ingredients

Advanced prepping is essential to the FAST Cooking System because it enables you to prepare meals in as little as 20 minutes using fresh ingredients. By combining advanced prepping with stir-frying, you can make home cooking efficient and enjoyable, even on busy weekdays when the thought of cooking might seem overwhelming compared to the convenience of takeout. Advanced prepping simplifies the cooking process, making it easy to put together a delicious dinner quickly. Moreover, it offers numerous other important benefits, such as reducing stress, fostering creativity, and ensuring you always have the ingredients you need on hand.

Advanced prepping is an indispensable technique, especially when it comes to stir-frying, a cooking method celebrated for its speed, versatility, and ability to create flavorful, vibrant dishes. While the actual stir-frying process is incredibly fast, often taking just a few minutes, the real effort lies in the preparation. For stir-frying to work seamlessly, ingredients must be meticulously prepped—washed, peeled, cut into uniform sizes, and organized. This preparation ensures even cooking, enhances the flavor and texture of the dish, and makes the cooking process efficient and enjoyable.

Why Advanced Prepping Matters for Stir-Frying

Stir-frying is all about quick, high-heat cooking that requires constant attention and precision. Because of this, there’s no time to chop, measure, or prepare ingredients while cooking; everything needs to be ready beforehand. Advanced prepping helps address this challenge by ensuring that all the work is done ahead of time, so when it’s time to cook, you can focus entirely on the process. Here’s how advanced prepping enhances stir-frying and your overall cooking experience:

1. Saves Time in Your Daily Routine

The beauty of stir-frying is its speed, but without advanced prepping, the time spent chopping vegetables and marinating proteins for each meal can negate this advantage. By dedicating a block of time once a week to prep your ingredients, you significantly reduce the time needed to prepare meals throughout the week. When everything is prepped and ready to go, you can create delicious and balanced meals in as little as 20 minutes—perfect for busy schedules.

2. Supports Complex, Multi-Ingredient Dishes

Many stir-fry dishes include a variety of ingredients, such as proteins, vegetables, aromatics like garlic and ginger, and sauces. Preparing these components on the spot can feel overwhelming, especially for dishes that involve intricate combinations. Advanced prepping allows you to have all these elements ready, enabling you to cook more complex recipes with ease. You’re no longer limited to simple dishes and can confidently explore new flavors and techniques.

3. Encourages Variety and Creativity

With prepped ingredients at your fingertips, you can effortlessly mix and match different combinations to suit your taste or mood. One night, you might use chicken with broccoli and bell peppers in a savory garlic sauce, while another night, you might opt for tofu with snap peas and carrots in a spicy Szechuan sauce. Advanced prepping empowers you to experiment and diversify your meals without the hassle of repetitive preparation.

4. Promotes Healthy Eating

One of the biggest barriers to healthy eating is convenience. When healthy ingredients like fresh vegetables and lean proteins are already prepped, it becomes much easier to choose a home-cooked meal over processed or takeout options. Advanced prepping ensures that wholesome ingredients are always ready to use, making healthy eating more accessible and enjoyable.

5. Reduces Food Waste

Advanced prepping encourages you to use up perishable ingredients before they spoil. By preparing vegetables, proteins, and other items in advance, you’re less likely to let them sit unused in the fridge. Proper storage techniques, such as airtight containers and refrigeration, further extend the shelf life of prepped ingredients, helping you save money and reduce waste.

6. Minimizes Stress and Increases Enjoyment

Cooking can feel stressful when you’re pressed for time or overwhelmed by the need to prep multiple ingredients on the spot. Advanced prepping eliminates this pressure, allowing you to focus on the joy of cooking. With everything ready to go, you can immerse yourself in the creative process of stir-frying, enjoying the vibrant colors, sizzling sounds, and rich aromas that make it such a delightful cooking method.

How to Get Started with Advanced Prepping

To make advanced prepping work for you, it’s important to plan ahead and set yourself up for success. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Plan Your Prepping Day

Choose a day each week to dedicate to prepping. This could be on the weekend or a day when you have extra time. Use this session to wash, peel, chop, and portion all the ingredients you plan to use for your meals.

2. Organize Your Ingredients

Focus on prepping versatile ingredients that can be used in a variety of dishes. For example:

  • Vegetables: Broccoli, bell peppers, onions, carrots, snap peas, zucchini, and mushrooms are great for stir-frying.

  • Proteins: Chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, tofu, or tempeh can be portioned and marinated in advance.

  • Aromatics: Minced garlic, ginger, and scallions can be prepped and stored for quick use.

3. Portion and Store

Store your prepped ingredients in airtight containers or resealable bags. Label each container with the date and contents to keep track of freshness. You can also group ingredients by recipe for added convenience—for example, place all the prepped vegetables and proteins for a specific stir-fry in one container.

4. Prepare Sauces in Advance

Homemade stir-fry sauces can be prepared ahead of time and stored in jars or squeeze bottles. Having sauces ready to go not only saves time but also ensures consistent flavors in your dishes.

5. Maintain Freshness

Store prepped vegetables in the fridge for up to 5–7 days, depending on the ingredient, and freeze proteins that you don’t plan to use within a few days. Proper storage is key to preserving the quality and flavor of your ingredients.

6. Stay Flexible

While it’s helpful to have a general plan for your meals, advanced prepping also allows for spontaneity. With a variety of prepped ingredients on hand, you can easily adjust your meals based on cravings, dietary needs, or what’s available.

The Transformative Impact of Advanced Prepping

Incorporating advanced prepping into your routine unlocks the full potential of stir-frying as a fast, versatile, and enjoyable cooking method. It allows you to create healthy, flavorful meals in minutes, even on the busiest days. Moreover, advanced prepping transforms cooking from a chore into a creative and stress-free activity.

With all your ingredients ready, you can fully enjoy the artistry of stir-frying—experimenting with flavors, textures, and techniques to create dishes that excite both your palate and your imagination. Advanced prepping isn’t just a practical solution for saving time—it’s a gateway to exploring the endless possibilities of home cooking, making it easier than ever to cook delicious, wholesome meals that you and your family will love.

Advanced prepping goes beyond just preparing your food ingredients before cooking; it's a creative process that gives you insight into your meal plans for the week. It helps you subconsciously plan what you might want to cook each night, leading to more creative and intuitive uses of your ingredients. This approach makes home cooking more spontaneous, fostering greater experimentation and discovery. Advanced prepping not only saves time but also reduces stress, making home cooking more interesting and exciting.

This is a great summary of the method. I have been using Tak's Fast Cooking Method for over six months now. I live mostly on my own. I have limitations on what I eat as I have insulin problems. This way I can get the nutrients and tasty meals for myself quickly which means I eat much better these days. I adapt the method to various cuisines and flavours.
